Prisoner abuses and the US harboring terrorist in Miami

Hip-Hop artist Yassin Bey aka Mos Def is raising awareness and protesting the force feeding (torture) of Guantanamo Bay political prisoners who are on a hunger strike.

Prisoners in California, Washington and Oregon went on a hunger strike today, which includes a work stoppage on July 8, 2013 until their demands are met.

Female prisoners in California were coerced into being sterilized and many of the procedures was done without approval of the state.

Venezuela, Nicaragua and Bolivia offered asylum to NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden over the weekend and Cuba's President Raul Castro has come out in support of those countries. "We support the sovereign right of .... Venezuela and all states in the region to grant asylum to those persecuted for their ideals or their struggles for democratic rights," Raul Castro said in a speech to Cuba's national assembly.

Venezuela and Cuban may have a political incentive to give refuge to Edward Snowden since the United States has repeatedly denied extradition requests for Cuban born Venezuelan Luis Clemente Faustino Posada Carriles. Carriles is a fugitive wanted for numerous bombings in Cuban and the downing of a Cubana Airlines jet that killed 73 people. He was waiting to stand trial in Venezuela before he escaped custody in 1985.
